The Oblogger is extremely ticked off right now. Was listening to an explanation of the filibuster on NPR and how it affects the Democrats' attempts to get healthcare passed.
And then it was explained that one reason why Dems and Repubs don't want a filibuster is because it "stops them from doing more important things....like fundraising."
Fundraising? Are you effing kidding me? This is why healthcare is stalled? Because our elected officials need time to fundraise?
So my thought is... let them filibuster. Let it happen. Let it take as long as it takes... one week, two weeks, one month, three months. I really don't give a damn.
Let the whole thing be televised. And let the American people see their Republican senators behaving badly and lying about healthcare reform.
And let the progressive factchecking army sit there with their laptops refuting each and every false statement.
I don't want them traveling to their home state. I don't want them seeing their wife and children. I don't care whether they are Democrats or Republicans. I want them there doing the job we elected them to do.
When a bully threatens you, you can't cave into the threat. And after healthcare passes, in whatever form, when filibuster is threatened again... then let's go to a REAL filibuster one more time. Each and every time let's call them on their threats and make all of them sit their butts in their chairs until they stop threatening.
When adults insist on acting like spoiled children, threatening to stamp their little feet and hold their breath until they pass out. I say GO FOR IT!
UPDATE: Looks like this idea is catching steam.
