Venting at Clinton Supporters Voting for McCain

A great Dailykos diary inspired by the antics of Clinton supporters like Harriet Christian, who say they will vote for McCain over Barack Obama.

I've never supported any political candidate enough to campaign or canvass for them....And until now I've been able to keep a respectful silence while others with very strong feelings for either of the Democratic candidates for President have public melt-downs when their candidate has a political setback.

I can't keep quiet now. I've just been watching a white woman in my age group on CNN going radioactive to the cameras about how she's going to vote for McCain if Hillary Rodham Clinton doesn't get the Democratic nomination. She gave as her rationale for this chop-off-your-nose-to-spite-your-face tactic that the Democratic party has turned on its women supporters.

...You, woman screaming into the cameras: you are old enough to remember the pre-Roe v. Wade days in America. Remeber coat hangers, Drano, women hurling themselves down steps, women dying and left unable to bear children from illegal botched abortions? Remember birth control outlawed? Remember the early 1970s, when a woman could not get a credit card or bank loan in her own name---when a woman needed an adult male co-signer's permission for them because we were deemed incompetent to manage our own financial affairs? Remember when sexual harassment and open sex discrimination were legal? Remember when we didn't have rape shield laws, when marital rape wasn't illegal? Remember when a woman being used as a punching bag by her husband had no recourse---had no earning power, no options, when the police she turned to often were abusers themselves and sympathized with the husband, when domestic violence shelters weren't even a twinkle in anyone's eye?

So I should vote for a candidate who employed sexism as his main campaign tool to combat sexism? Thanks for the brain massage offer, I will pass. I am voting for Hillary if she runs as an independent candidate or if not, I am writing her name in. There is no chance in hell I am voting for Obama after the way he ran this campaign. Ever.

You were never gonna vote for Obama not matter what. Your more than likely a Mccain supporter pretending to be for Hillary. Barack never employed any sexism tactics in his campaign. He has many women supporters and its mostly women who run his campaign. Then of course you wouldn't know because you probably never went to one of his offices and met his staffers or most of his volunteers.

How did Obama employ sexism in his campaign? Specifics, please...

Obama sat silent when pundits for Obama claimed Hillary "played the race card" during the South Carolina primary. He pretends to be above dirty politics because, just like Bush in 2004, he has others to do his dirty politics for him. He doesn't represent change. I won't vote for him in November.

Like Hillary's run this entirely clean campaign?

Get off your high horse.

Um, let's see Barack Oblogger (what an original name...):

Let me count the ways:

1. "You're likeable enough Hillary;
2. waffling all over the place on Compassion Forum re: when does life begin?
3. "Sweetie" not once but twice
4. Not answering the reporter's question IN ADDITION to "sweetie"
5. Allowing his surrogates to use terms like "hysterical" when referring to Clinton's supporters;
6. "Well, uh, you know, I think that, uh, Hillary has a strong group of supporters, women; and they are uncomfortable with, uh, change." [Axelrod]
7. "Periodically, when she's down, she lashes out"
8. "And then, you know, the claws come out..."
9. Never bothering to reference or talk about his white mother on the campaign trail, but talking up his black father.
10. "Oh, I think they'll come around" (re: women who support Hillary Clinton)
11. Repeated references to HRC - effusive praise, praise, praise in the last two-three speeches but noticeable lack of concern for HRC's supporters prior to.
12. Has he introduced/co-sponsored any "pro-woman"/pro-family legislation in U.S. Senate? No - except SCHIP (a high visibility bill). Check his U.S. Senate bills.
13. "Well, I'll have to think about it, you know, the message and the tone..." [Michelle Obama when asked about supporting HRC if she was the nominee]
14. "...because you can't run the WH unless you have your own house in order..." [Michelle Obama on why her hubby is a better choice than HRC
15. The use of right-wing tactics and talking points to smear HRC as every conceivable thing under the sun: untrustworthy, secretive (also a negative association to women, which isn't lost on Obama), "calculating" - another oldie but goodie used to describe strong/powerful women.
16. His surrogate - Oprah getting up in front of a national audience and doing the "whiny white bitch" routine with nasal quality and all.
17. Encouraging or not discouraging his supporters (childish male twits that many of them are) from using horrendous names: Billary, witch, bi***, c***, menopausal mama, menopausal white b"***, shrew, castrating.

Do I need to go on? Of course I don't know why I bother, since the O'sphere dismisses any and all of this - which is, by the way, sexist.

Get it? S-E-X-I-S-T. Frankly, most of O's followers/surrogates oughta have their mouths taped shut for some of the trash talk they engage in against HRC, HRC's supporters, and women.

And if there are women who engage in this women-hating trash talk, they aren't any better.

First of all, I am a woman.

I could compile a similar and longer list of gaffes that have been uttered by Hillary, Bill and her supporters.

If you want to base your vote on trivialities and personal slights, please be my guest.

But before you say that Obama has not done anything for women, you should get your facts straight.
