West Virginia is a state that does not count to the Obama Movement. It has those white working class voters that the Creative Class is trying to purge from the Party,Cultural Shift: Out with Bubbas, up with Creatives. Obama has all the markers of a creative class background, from his community organizing, to his Unitarianism, to being an academic, to living in Hyde Park to shopping at Whole Foods and drinking PBR. These will be the type of people running the Democratic Party now, and it will be a big cultural shift from the white working class focus of earlier decades.Culturally, the Democratic Party will feel pretty normal to netroots types. I very much disagree that Obama wants to purge white working class voters from the party. I think that the Republicans for many years now has played up this so-called cultural divide in order to keep power.
I think that Democrats have a lot of interest in helping the working class (regardless of race), but that those working class voters are manipulated into believing that the Democrats and liberals are their enemies, rather than seeing them as a positive force for change and empowerment in their OWN lives, which is what the Democrats aim to be.
