Letter from Iowa

Obama has received more Iowa newspaper endorsements than any of the other Democratic candidates. Below is an email I received from an Obama supporter who is volunteering in Ottumwa, Iowa. Obama has been endorsed by the Ottumwa Courier:
Greetings from Ottumwa!

Things seem to be moving along quite well in Ottumwa. Yesterday was a busy day - contacted a lot of voters yesterday by phone to locate caucus supporters. We were also calling voters here in Ottumwa to remind them that Senator Obama will be in Ottumwa this evening at the high school this evening for a big rally. I am really excited because I have never heard him speak on the campaign trail, although I heard him give his infamous speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2004.

I have been doing voter contact in a precinct in Ottumwa. I made calls yesterday from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm, then I went door to door in the same precinct from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, then back on the phones from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Our supporters are really fired up! And i think tonights rally should be really exciting. I can't wait! The local paper, the Ottumwa Courier, endorsed Senator Obama the other day on their editorial page so hopefully that will help drive up attendance at the caucuses for Senator Obama as well.

Senator Obama was in Davenport yesterday and Edwards conducted a rally there as well at the same time. Our rally had 800 people in attendance, the Edwards rally drew 350, so I am hoping that is a good sign.

The staff here is amazing. They are extremely nice people and they know exactly what they are doing, they train us well, answer our questions and are extremely appreciative of everything we do. They work incredibly long hours so I want you to know that if you are a contributor to the campaign you are getting a lot of bang for your buck!!

Senator Obama's cross-over appeal is quite eveident here in Ottumwa. I actually spoke with several registered republicans yesterday who were contemplating swithcing their registration to Democratic in order to caucus for Obama. In each instance, they were trying to decide if tey wopuld caucus for Huckabee on teh Rep., side of Obama on the Democratic side. It will be interesting to see if Huckabere's idiotic comments regarding Pakistani immigrants yesterday will be help push them to Obama. We'll see.

I think that covers everything for now. I'll be sure to let you know how the rally goes tonight in my email tomorrow. Happy New year to all!
